Recovering American Soldiers at Walter Reed - Update

In the last newsletter there was an article about sending cards and phone cards to Recovering American Soldiers at Walter Reed. I looked this up on Snopes.com because I thought I had heard on TV that this was not a good idea. Walter Reed will not accept any mail that is addressed like that because of the threat of terrorism and all mail like this will be destroyed. The notice encouraged us to include phone cards and they would also be destroyed along with the cards. It seems that the only people who will benefit from this are the post office and the card companies.

Unknown Insect (Luna Moth)

While playing bridge at Barbara and Walter Baturka's home, the assembled group of Yardley ladies noticed the most unusual species of insect clinging to the deck wall. It was light green, feelers on its head, a smooth body and a wingspan of approximately 3 inches, resembling a butterfly. Though all were in awe, none recognized this exotic looking creature. It has since been identified as a LUNA MOTH..

Luna Moths are perhaps one of the most beautiful and elegant moths in our area and seeing one is a rare treat because there is no way to capture and preserve their beauty in photographs or mounted specimens. Lunas are members of the Giant Silkworm family (Saturniidae spp.) along with Cecropia and Polyphemus moths. Like its cousins, Lunas do not feed as adults, therefore, their lifespans as adults are 1 week.
